5Exceeded my expectations  Mar 14, 2010
I've been a seedling vegetable gardener primarily and relied upon the kitchen fluorescent lighting for my few seeds and was unhappy with the results. Prior to this T5 light my grown seedlings were spindly and not as successful as hoped. This light carries a more full spectrum of light so that the seedlings grow in normal proportions.
Easy to set up, the draw string cord is as simple as your own hoodie to draw up. I've also found it to be completely sturdy in construction. The light is sunlight bright and therefore will probably be a fantastic accessory to keep on my sewing table when this growing season passes.
In combination with 72 Jiffy seed pellets grow trays I couldn't be more happy with the results. I got an early start on chard, butter lettuce, collards and snow peas and green beans that are all already transplanted into the garden. My hopes this year is to have enough variety of homegrown tomatoes to bring them to local chefs to barter for special occasion meals later on!
The worst thing to say about this product is the HUGE temptation to start TOO MANY seeds because I just don't have THAT much space for the results. I've grown so many tomato seedlings from my saved seeds last year that none of my friends will have to go to a nursery.
I chose this 4 foot length over the 2 foot because I had the counter space and wanted to have a wider area to grow a wider variety of multiple seedlings at one time. My anticipated successes with weather helping will certainly increase both the variety of vegetables as well as annual yield enough to justify the purchase within this first year.

3Bad bulb, easy instructions  Mar 08, 2010
I was very excited to get my first plant light setup but my shipment was somewhat disappointing. It arrived on time and was easy to put together and appeared to be all in one piece and functional, until I checked the bulb. It seems to have broken internally as it makes a jingling noise when lightly shaken and does not light up with the switch flipped either direction. So now I've had to order a replacement bulb and with luck that will fix my problem.

4Great Starter Grow Light  Mar 07, 2010
This is a nice table-top device for limited amounts of indoor growing. Has a single T5 light source, but this is a great and inexpensive way to begin indoor cultivation. Later you might like to graduate to larger set ups that will have 2 or more shelves and multiple lights for starting larger numbers of seedlings.

5Winter wonder grow light  Feb 25, 2010
I was so pleased with the Hydrofarm 2-foot grow light. I have a head start on my garden for 2010. Already have peppers and tomatoes in gallon cans. Looks like an early spring for Washington State. The grow light takes the edge off of wanting to get busy planting. It was easy to set up and does not take up a lot of space.

4Works as designed  Feb 22, 2010
The light is working rather well. I read other reviews saying that the frame is not stable enough, but it seems pretty stable to me.

The fittings are very tight and I had to use the rubber mallet to put the top bar onto the legs (as described in the directions).
